No, not those 3 words, these 3 words I call: Power Words.
What are power words you ask? Power words are carefully chosen adjectives or verbs that can really help your writing stand out, get attention, and most importantly help your readers visualize what you are trying to say.
Power words used effectively can drive your readers to do something you want them to do,like download a report, click here, or even better buy what you are offering. They invite and entice the reader to learn more about what you have to say and in return you must deliver.

Now I could give you a long list of words, which I might later, but for now, I wanted to focus on these 3 simple little power words I like to use.

Power word #1: New
This word implies something fresh, exciting, and gets your attention especially when used in conjunction with something you really want.  People are naturally drawn to something new, whether it’s clothes  to make them feel and look good, or a new course that promises to teach them how to improve their business.

So when you use “new” make sure it really delivers. Here are few examples:

  • Try this exciting new course on how to use social media for your small business
  • 5 new and exciting ways to spruce up your website
  • New marketing methods to increase brand awareness
  • We have a new offer on our latest phones with free shipping
  • New ways to freshen up your look without spending a dime

As you can see, there are many ways you can use the word new to get attention for your content. The key is delivery.

Power word #2: Imagine
Imagine is a beautiful power word, it can instantly take you to a better place where your problem is solved, and you can see the possibilities. This word is especially important when describing the benefits of your product or service.

Your customer should be able to visualize how your product or service can improve their life after reading about it. For example:

  • Imagine owning your own successful business, no more 9 to 5 with a boss you hate
  • Imagine increasing your price and sales at the same time.
  • Imagine you could lose 10 lbs and eat what you want.
  • Imagine a life without financial worries using my 5 step approach
  • Imagine what you could do with the right brand strategy

Power word #3” How or How to
I love “how to” headings and subject lines, they get straight to the point and tell the reader exactly what to expect.  Think about when you google something, chances are you often start with, “how to”.

Clever ways to use “how to” includes adding a list to the how to topic or you can provide a sense of urgency by providing a call to action. Some examples include:
  • How to save money today
  • How to grow your business in 6 easy steps
  • How to lose 10lbs in 2 weeks
  • Learn how to convert email subscribers into customers in our next webinar
  • Learn how to build your website in 2 days

As you can see, these 3 simple power words carry a lot of weight in any type of writing, not only in business. Use them creatively and your readers will want to learn more about what you have to say.

Here are 25 more power words for you to pick at. Some of these border line on the emotional side, but the impact is still there. Enjoy.
